Sound to Picture
All of the video files are encoded either as Quicktime 6 Movies (using
the
Sorenson 3 codec) or VCD Mpeg's. Both can easily be viewed on a PC or
Mac
(the Mpeg's require no additional software download, they'll play natively).
The Mpeg's are larger in size but due to their relationship with the
original DVD format, a viewer with a cutter and a DVD that plays VCDs
can
cut the files to CDR/RW and view them in the comfort of their own home.
Now
if that isn't customer care then I don't know what is :-) If you're having
problems viewing the files we recommend Quicktime for the Mac and Winamp for
the PC.

How naughty of
us to put our own animated logo at the top of the S2P page
but hey, if you can't indulge on your _own_ website then when can
you? The
animation was produced by Tobias Dahlen, a pro animator from Sweden.
We
'borrowed' an orchestra + choir to record the completely OTT score.

The complete
CNN 'vignette' on Giorgio Locatelli's Italian Restaurant as
it's been transmitted worldwide from July 2004. 50s Jazz score by
B&B to
compliment the fact that the music played in the restaurant is from
the same
era and genre. Drums, bass, guitar, sax & keys all recorded live
in and
around the Cambridge area. 50% of the size of PAL VCD format (files
directly
from CNN) but should convert easily enough in cutting software.

Again, the complete
CNN 'vignette', this time on the subject of Raffles
hotel in Singapore. The score needed to combine elements of the 'clockwork'
nature of the ultra organised staff behind the scenes with a chinese
flavour
and something unusual to keep it upbeat. After a lot of head-scratching,
a fusion of oriental+funk was adopted. Drums, bass, guitar & chinese
violin all recorded live @ B&Bs studio (except the drums recorded at
the drummers gaff). 50% of the size of PAL VCD format (files directly from CNN)
but should convert easily enough in cutting software. |

Realtime grab
of the first 60 seconds of the Intro to UT2004 (hence the
slight framerate judder). B&B created all the sound design, foley
(seing

article for proof!) ambience and dub. The final mix was produced
in
Steinberg Nuendo with over 60 channels of audio, oodles of plugins
and
copious amounts of automation and was our first official collaboration
with
Streamline Studios who produced the visuals, and a fine job they
did too! NTSC VCD format.

We were very
honoured when Dark City Records (16Volt's record label - the
rock band from Primal) asked whether we'd like to have an orchestral
music
video produced for Primal featuring clips of the recordings made
in Prague
and the game itself. It was produced & edited by double platinum
music video
director Elliott Smith and a very nice job he did indeed! Don't take
our
word for it, have a gander yourself. It's 4 minutes long and features
the
more romantic lyrical music. PAL VCD format.

This is more
of a demonstration of how we work. The 'playblast' (i.e. rough
work-in-progress) visuals are exported directly from Maya software
to give
us something concrete to work with timing wise. We then produce the
various
layers of sound design, ambience & foley. This is then delivered
to the
developer who then synchronise any speech or music over the top and
produce
a final dub. For this sequence our hero is 'stunned' (the slo-mo
shot
required a bit of head scratching on the sound design front!) but
promptly
scarpers as his friends arrive, dropping a key bit of evidence in
the
process. PAL VCD Format. |

A 1 minute clip
from our award-winning-score (sorry, had to get that in
there somewhere!) to this Spanish short film on the subject of domestic
abuse. This scene features the abuser's son, Teo, as he experiences
a small respite from the anguish of life at home as he feeds his dogs and
rides off into the beautiful Spanish wilderness to be alone with his thoughts.
This gave us the opportunity to really flesh out the main theme. PAL VCD Format.

This was a job
that we did for 21seven and
was right up our alley way! It was a TV advert that used the sound
of an old school game tune! We spent more time in preparation than
we did in writing this one. We had to source the sounds of a supermarket
and spot them to picture as per normal. As the advert progressed,
the sounds of the supermarket gradually began to morph to play the
main musical theme with the other sounds (till drawers etc.) coming
in to beef up the overall sound. Quite an ingenious idea and quite
a challenge. |

This was another
job we did for 21seven. They produced this video to be played at the
launch party for up-and-coming instrumental drum 'n' bass artists,
the Nextmen. The trailer went down so well at the launch party that
we understand that it received an airing on Zane Lowe's “Gonzo
show” on MTV. |

Nikko cars is
an online car racing game for kids that was apparently so addictive
it left them lost and bewildered in the ‘real’ world craving
for more. In order to capture that feeling of ‘otherworldliness’
that the client wanted for these range of ads, we went down a more
ethereal / electronic route with the sound design and a raw but again
electronic sting for the main logo. We loved the final result, simple
but effective, fortunately so did they! |

Based on our work
for Nikko Cars, Fox Kids awarded us the commission to score the entire
World Cup 2003, a huge sporting event for kids transmitted in 24 countries
for approx. 3 months. For this we had to create a unique musical identity
as well as stings, idents, musical themes which could all be identified
with the world cup within a couple of seconds of being played. A tough
challenge, but one we happily rose to. The downloadable track here
is the main titles for the show but alas without the sound design
or voice over, but it’ll give you a good idea of what went on.

We were initially
disappointed to find that the music we scored for the game was not
to be used on the UK TV advertisements, with the ad agency opting
to not use music at all. However, when a colleague of ours visited
the continent we discovered that our music had been used on the French
TV ads for Primal. With a little but of investigative work (and a
lot of help from the guys at Sony Cambridge) we discovered that our
music was used in adverts shown in 9 countries to be shown in both
cinema and on TV.
The advertisement you see here was shown on Austrian TV and in
cinema. As we obtain more, we'll include them on the website.
